A 50-year-old man has died by suicide in Kangui area of Githunguri, Kiambu County leaving behind a note confessing to the murder of his 80-year-old mother.
His mother was discovered dead at her home earlier this month, with reports indicating that she was murdered over Ksh.8,000 Inua Jamii Cash.
“The man is Gikonyo Muchiiri and he killed his mum Nyakero Muchiri because of the Inua Jamii cash … when he exhausted the money, he also killed himself,” a neighbour told Citizen Digital on Tuesday.
“He has already confessed to killing his mum… his mum was to be buried tomorrow but we don’t know if they will postpone the funeral so that the two can be buried together,”
The late Muchiri, according to locals, was drugged up just before he passed away.
After penning a confession for killing his mother, he hanged himself on the roof and was found dead inside his house.
The event was confirmed by the Githunguri Police Commander Mary Kaimenyi, who also stated that Nyakero Muchiri's death is still under investigation.
Kaimenyi remarked, "He had a written letter in his pocket that indicated that he felt bad for what he had done to his mother.
We have started investigations to determine what killed the mother. Maybe, based on the note, he understands what caused his mother's death, which occurred some time ago.
